Evergreen Academy Preschool Opening in Kirkland

Evergreenschool
It's hard to believe, but pretty soon the rush to get preschool applications will be here.  Parents tend to stress themselves out over making the 'best' choice for their children's first encounter with formalized schooling.  I'm amazed at how the process seems to have taken on a college application type of hype where there are waiting lists and nail-biting moments. I remember those days...being extra early and diligent knowing that with twins I needed 2 spots in my favorite preschool. I'm sure I wrote some sappy tear-jerking separation anxiety blog posts about it.

Lucky for Kirkland, there is another preschool in the mix that is accepting applications for 2011 right now. Evergreen Academy is a Montessori school that is opening their newest location at 12233 116th Ave NE.  Their building is being renovated and will be open in January of 2011. You can find infant, toddler, beginner and preschool programs.   In preschool, you must be potty trained (well, we know YOU are, make sure your kiddo is!) and you can expect your little lovie to be exposed to subjects like math, geography, culture, art, science and even spanish on a daily basis. There is a half day (9-12) and a full day option available (9-3) with an extended care program as well. There is an OPEN HOUSE on Wednesday 9/29 @ 5:30pm at the Bothell location.   If you have questions or want to be kept in the loop about upcoming open houses/tours/details, contact the Principal, Carrie Stull. ~j

Eastside Pet Lodge & Play Care Opens in Kirkland

Ever so quietly hidden on the corner of Market Street and 18th Ave West is a 100% kennel-free oasis to take your beloved dog when you are away. Jolene Winter(pictured with Kiki and Rio) just opened her business, Eastside Pet Lodge & Play Care , in June in what was previously an adult family home.  After 8 years in real estate, she decided to follow her heart.  She always knew she wanted to take care of dogs.  You can tell she's in her element because a trail of dogs follow her around the house as she gives me the tour and talks to them too.  There are lots of rooms with couches where the dogs are welcome to sit/lounge or if you pup is feeling like romping around in the grass they can do that safely in the double fenced yard with both grass and turf.

Caring and experienced staff is on site at all times.  There are relaxing tunes in the background and aromatherapy so it was starting to feel almost like a spa retreat.  Grooming is available too.   Jolene can take up to 9 dogs at a time (no aggressive pooches, please!) and you need to submit vaccine records prior to your stay.  Although they can often accommodate on short notice, the busiest times are the holidays so book in advance for sure if you have a getaway planned.  Here are the current rates for daycare: $39/day (7:30a-6p) or $29 for 1/2 day up to 5 hrs.  Boarding is $50/nt.  Things like walks or medication administration are included in the rate, so no up-charges would apply.  425-968-2346 Sounds like it's a good time to be a mutt in Kirkland! ~j

Kirkland Triathlon Volunteers Needed

Buoy
So, you didn't quite get yourself ready to race for this year's Kirkland Triathlon at Carillon Point on Sat 9/18?  No problem, just volunteer instead!  Steve is doing it for the first time, so maybe you'd be the one throwing him a buoy during the swim or encouraging him to drink some water and then giving him a big push as he's pedaling up that hill by Lake WA Technical College. Go Steve!

To find out how to help- contact Tom Shobe at 206-992-4778 or Connie.  People are needed from 5:45-11:30am (hello morning people!).  If you are part of a group/school/organization, they can pay $20 person payable to the organization with 5 or more volunteers. Sounds like an easy way to make a few bucks for your school!! Have fun, we'll see you out there! ~j
