Evergreens Preps for Weds Open

    IMG_8166      IMG_8169

Evergreens at Kirkland Urban will be officially opening its doors this Weds at 11am. You'll find them right at the top of the stairs by the new QFC.  I went to their practice session today where lunch was free (rumor has it Tues is too. 12-3. #winningtips #yourewelcome) while the employees got to practice their craft of quickly creating crunchy, healthy and delicious salads, wraps and grain bowls.  Their other locations typically have a line wrapped out the door so they are preparing for Kirklanders to bombard them with our health-conscious hangry selves.

I had "the Super Bowl," which seemed timely, and was oh-so pretty (photo).   "Don't You Forget About Me" was rocking on the speakers and taking me back to my youth while I ate my super fresh lunch in 10 minutes flat.  Great quick delish $10ish meals  and all of the trays, bowls, utensils and napkins are compostable. It's perfectly fine to grab your lunch on the go, there are only four tables in the space.    Menu is here, love the pics. Hours are 11-7 everyday and you can also order online and they cater. I asked an Evergreen staffer what they wanted you to know......"Eat healthy. Live healthy." That's their motto! enjoy.

FEAST Your Eyes on This

Feast2020 (2)  Feast2020 (6)

Chad and Jessi Waldher (photo), owners of Bottle & Bull on Lake St and Marcy's in Walla Walla, are getting very close to sharing their latest creation with you. Many of you were sending panicked emails when their Park Lane Public House closed its doors, but have no fear, a fabulous french brasserie named Feast will be emerging in mid-February at 115 Park Lane. This is a concept they have been talking about for a while, and all of the pieces and dream team just came together now to make it happen.

I had a chance to sit down with the new Feast crew (photo) and their excitement is palpable. "This new concept just didn't fit in our pub setting," says Jessi, who toured me around the freshly wallpapered walls and walked me through all of their new French-themed decor.  This will be a bit closer to fine dining but without the dress code or white linens. And still family friendly, of course.  "Casual refined," says Chad with a chuckle.  Chef Rich Jimenez, previously of Chateu Des Fleurs, can't stop smiling when he talks about his classic and modern dishes with a PNW flair that will be awaiting us.  I, of course, can't spell them! Nor did I know quite what this meant.  But then he jumped back into the kitchen and whipped me up a tasting platter and the world made sense again.

Get ready to experience vanilla bean applesauce on top of foie gras torchon, a burger with short rib Beaujolais demi gloss and pork jelly smoked onion aioli, tuna with pickled plum aoli in sesame leaf, roasted carrot with burnt honey brown butter and petit coriander, and a lyonnaise salad. Pair your meal with one of their 30 carefully selected wines by the glass or perhaps an old world bottle of beer. You'll find many new world wines that are still French in style.  Expect price points to be $12-18 for the first and second course and $20-40 for mains. Here are some sexy food photos to get you in the mood..

The team at Feast is excited to take you on this journey with them.  "Kirkland has always been good to us.  We want to thank everyone and let them know we are eager to serve them again!" says Jessi.  Opening is targeted for the second week in Feb.  This establishment will be dinner only from  4-10 pm and they will be closed on Monday. Happy Hour in the bar 4-6pm.

Lounge by Topgolf Opens in Kirkland Urban 1/24

Did you know that there are 52 Top Golf locations internationally? But we, my Kirkland friends, have the very FIRST  Lounge by Top Golf opening this week in Kirkland Urban.  Standing proudly with expansive views above the new QFC, the Lounge offers a variety of virtual games for every level.  There are 4 bays for up to 8 guests each and a VIP area that can accommodate up to 22 people.  If your golf game is not up to 'par' don't stress, you can also play virtual baseball, football, hockey, soccer, carnival games or zombie dodgeball instead of one of the 80 golf courses or challenges.

I had the opportunity to check everything out at the preview party last week. Upon entering I was mesmerized by all of the digital screens on the ceiling that continually change color and design. I must have stared at it for 5 minutes.   Pair that with a few Moscow Mules and I was ready to swing a golf club!   Perhaps I was a little shy at first but once you get the hang of it you don't care or notice who else is watching and just embrace the goodness that comes with being able to laugh at yourself and others.  Lounge by Topgolf has a full bar and wine and locally-sourced food such as mussels, salmon and steak.  There are plenty of nibbles too- the Greek caesar and edamame hummus was delish and they also have charred cauliflower so you can say you ate some veggies too! Sorry I didn't take any food pics, I was too busy throwing my arm out  on the virtual baseball game (no joke I had to ice when I got home) .  There's plenty of room for lounging in the bar, and I love the expansive deck that wraps around the corner of the building with comfy seating, umbrellas, firepits and city/lake landscape views. Cornhole and Jenga complete the outdoor gaming challenges.

Rates to rent a TGL bay is hourly (roughtly $50-70/hr) and varies based on day and time. Current rates are here, and of course they would love to host your private events too.  Events can handle anywhere from 6-225 people.  There will be a DJ on Saturday nights and live music with brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.  After 9pm, the Lounge is 21 and over- woot woot! Hours are Mon-Thurs 11am-12am, Fri 11am-1am, Sat 9am-1am, Sun 9am-11pm.  Happy Hour spreads its cheer from Mon-Fri 3-6pm and of course you receive 4 hours of validated parking.  It's a little tricky to find your way there the first time, so I'm going to help you out.  You can either walk up the stairs that reside to the left/east of the QFC bar and make a right at the top of the stairs to find it down on your left.  OR- if you park below, get in the elevator that is adjacent to the staircase that takes you directly into the QFC and take it to the second floor. Left off the elevator and you have arrived.

And if you made it this far in the post, you should know the soft opening is 1/20.  I have a feeling this place is going to be a big hit, so book your bays early!

Also a bonus, Top Golf is planning to open a 14 acre Renton location in 2021.  And a rumor that PinStripes is coming to Urban too? An entertainment mecca awaits at Urban.

Miracles Can Happen

All of the glitter, eggnog and fireball is finally put away.  Usually I start off the new year by rambling off some New Year's resolutions that I think might stick but this time, I'm not going to bother you with that.  Screw it.  I'm not striving to change everything. I'm accepting things.  Instead of vowing to workout more and eat less, I'm just realizing it's not the end of the universe if I just size up in my pants.  They look fine, and at least fit better so I can breathe easy.  Instead of resolutions, this year I am going to share a little Christmas miracle that happened in our house this holiday. Then a few Kirkland updates, of course.

Our son is 14 and our daughters are 16 now.  Those parents of little kids that still stay up late doing 'elf on the shelf' and assembling gifts- I want you to know, there is a turning point when you no longer feel like you have to do it all.  And this year was ours. The one where lightening struck and our children finally had more moments of maturity, forethought, appreciation, gratitude and unprompted kindness.    Just a few examples..first, the girls drove themselves to Nordstrom Rack and bought us well-thought out gifts with their hard-earned babysitting money.    Then on Christmas Eve, after a great meal and conversation at home, all three voluntarily popped out of their seats and cleared every item off of the table, loaded the dishwasher and hand-washed every pot, pan and serving bowl. They were laughing and chatting together the whole time.   I had to pinch myself. Was it our often questionable parenting style to credit for this?  Were we being Punk'd? Or perhaps the wine and holiday music were feeding a hallucination? Their hugs and thank you's that evening suddenly seemed to have depth, as if they could see every stocking we stuffed and ribbon we curled over the last decade.  I wish I could have bottled that feeling.   With 2020 underway, everything is back to normal with the sarcasm and procrastinating in full swing, but hopefully that magical spell is cast again next season.

Park Lane Public House is closed and will become "Feast," a french brasserie with lots of wines by the glass and a PNW flair on French food.

Top Golf Lounge is opening at Kirkland Urban on 1/24. I'm previewing this week, stay tuned!

Bailey's Shoe Repair in Rose Hill (previously in Kirkland Park Place) has closed.
